Board and Lodging with Relatives Subsidy
What we do
In an effort to support relatives who care for persons with a psychiatric disability, the Newfoundland and Labrador Government approved a board and lodging subsidy under the Poverty Reduction Strategy in 2007. The Mental Health and Addictions Program of Eastern Health administers this supplement through the housing division. We define a person with a psychiatric disability as a person who is living with, and receiving treatment for a mental illness and for whom the symptoms of that illness are severe enough that it interferes with everyday functioning and the ability to live independently.
Who can access this service
This service is for you, if you
- are between 18 and 64 years of age;
- have a diagnosed mental illness/addiction that you are currently being treated for;
- meet financial eligibility for the supplement; and
- live with a relative (specifically a child, parent, grandparent) and the relative provides support. If you reside with siblings, you will be assessed under the non-relative program.
