Tuckamore Youth Treatment Centre
What we do
Tuckamore is a residential treatment centre for youth (aged 12-18 years) with complex mental health challenges. Located in Paradise, Tuckamore services youth from all over Newfoundland and Labrador. The average length of stay is between six months and one year.
Our treatment program uses a dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed model of care and includes individual, group and family counselling. We also practice therapeutic crisis intervention. We have an inter-disciplinary team that offers other services including therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, and both music and art therapy. Tuckamore provides a safe and home-like environment, complete with an on-site school, a multipurpose room, a physical fitness area and an apartment for family visiting overnight.
How to access this service
Referrals are made by mental health professionals in the community, screened by our intake workers, and presented to the provincial admissions committee. You can ask your physician, nurse, clinician or social worker about additional supports for youth in your community such as counselling; and, if Tuckamore seems right for you, they can also help with a referral (PDF). You will also need a completed medical assessment (PDF) as well.
